The Chicago Pride Parade is just around the corner, and here at PPM we can’t wait to celebrate with all of our residents here in Lakeview this weekend. In fact, we are so excited that we are having a party right here at 507 West Diversey. We encourage all PPM residents to stop by for refreshments, a place to cool off, and a bathroom. What’s even better is that PPM offers so many great locations all on route of the parade this weekend. From 2756 N. Pine Grove, to 430 W. Diversey, all the way up to 500 W. Belmont, we got you covered!

What can we expect this Sunday for the 2015 Chicago Pride Parade? Well, for starters, this might be the last time we see the Parade head down Halsted Street in Lakeview. This means if you have never attended before, then this year might be your last. Of course we all hope this will not be the case, so to help reinforce this, let’s try to make it a clean and safe festival this year!  So, before we get into the parade itself, let’s first take a look at the parade as a whole.

The Chicago Pride Parade, or Chicago Gay Pride Parade, is an annual Lakeview festival which takes place on the last Sunday of June in Chicago. The parade is the culmination of the Gay and Lesbian Pride month, but in recent years it has had an increase in gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender Americans participating in it. So it’s no wonder that over the years this celebration has become bigger and better than ever before!

Organized June 27th, 1970, as a march from Washington Square Park to the Water Tower, today the parade takes place through the main streets of Lakeview. Its route starts at Halsted Street, proceeds north from Belmont Avenue, passes by Waveland Avenue, turns south on Broadway toward Diversey Parkway, and ends at East Diversey. With such a stretch, there are plenty of spots to scope out at this annual Chicago event. Just make sure you get on location early to grab a spot!

It was recorded on June 28th, 2009, that more than 50,000 spectators watched the 40th pride parade and it has only grown larger in recent years. As of 2013, more than 1,000,000 people were in attendance, making the Chicago Pride Parade one of the country’s biggest and most popular around the nation. This year you can even expect to see some of our Chicago Blackhawks champions and, with them, the Stanley Cup, something you just can’t miss!

You can expect amazing floats, flags, and so many colors heading out Sunday. In fact PPM will be in the parade this year! With all the festivities, there sure will be plenty to do and see all weekend. Including showcases, music, food, and an amazing bar atmosphere, you’re sure to have a blast come Sunday afternoon!

The Chicago Pride weekend consists of a two-day festival and Chicago’s world famous parade. The festival takes place along Chicago’s famed Halsted strip on Saturday, June 20th, 2015, and Sunday, June 21st, 2015. The parade kicks off at noon on Sunday, June 28th, at Montrose Avenue and Broadway in Uptown and ends near the intersection of Diversey Parkway and Sheridan Road in Lincoln Park. Make sure to dress colorful, drink responsibly, and most of all, HAVE A BLAST!
